Welcome to the Northwoods Wolf Alliance web site. We are a coalition of Anishinaabeg and non-Anishinaabeg people committed to stopping the wolf hunts in Minnesota and Wisconsin, preventing one in Michigan, and to the long term protection of ma'iingan (wolf) in Anishinaabeg Akiing (Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan).

The Northwoods Wolf Alliance was co-founded in September 2012 by Reyna Crow and Sandra Skinaway. We responded to our belief that there was a need for an organization focusing on Anishinaabeg concerns and unique interests in protecting ma'iinngan. We have spent our first two months working to increase public awareness about the wolf hunt which commenced in Minnesota on November 4, 2012. Rallies led by Sandra Skinaway have taken place each Saturday in downtown Duluth, Minnesota and have been responded to with overwhelming enthusiasm, encouragement and support.

On October 20, 2012 we held WOLF WALK 2012, a rally and march in opposition to the hunt on wolves in Minnesota. Organized with no budget in about six weeks, this event still drew hundreds of people from all over Minnesota and also brought in supporters from Wisconsin.

On Friday, November 3rd, we kicked off the weekend of the hunt opening by traveling to St. Paul to rally with out sister organization `Howling for Wolves' at the MN DNR office. Then we headed to the White Earth Reservation to support Bob Shimek and others there in their efforts to ensure that hunters entering the reservation were welcomed to the `White Earth Wolf Sanctuary', and reminded that there was no wolf hunting on the White Earth Reservation.  The next morning, on the opening day of the hunt, our members greeted hunters heading to the Northwoods through Duluth on I35 with a banner reading `Real Hunters Don't Kill Wolves' and then rallied at our usual Saturday location on the corner of Lake Avenue and Superior Street. Both events were met with such positive response in the form of honking horns, thumbs up and shouts of thanks that even the media made note of it. Later that afternoon, members of both the Northwoods Animal Alliance and Howling for Wolves were warmly welcomed at the Fond du Lac Reservation where a ceremony to honor and strengthen ma'iingan was held, and we shared our thoughts on the situation and re-affirmed our committment to regaining meaningful and long term protection for ma'iingan in the Northwoods we proudly call home.

Tomorrow, we take our rally on the road, visiting Hinckley Minnesota. We look forward to holding our first rally on the Iron Range in a few weeks and are also excited about our next talk with college students, coming up on Tuesday.

That essentially concludes the first post on our new website. We are anxious to have a little time between rallies to share photos, articles, video from our WOLF WALK 2012 and plenty more information and resources with you as we build this site.

Miigwech (thank you) for visiting and please come back soon!

In solidarity for ma'iingan,
Reyna Crow
